Alyson: Exclusive Interview
Where are you from originally?
Originally I'm from New York, but I moved to L.A. about two years ago to work on my music.
Who are your musical influences?
I love R&B and dance, so my musical influences are mostly Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Deborah Cox, and Tina Turner. I can't believe she still looks so good!
What is one of your favorite memories so far?
Well I love going out in West Hollywood where I live, and just recently I got to meet DJ Ralphi Rosario at The Factory in West Hollywood where he played my single "Feel You" that he remixed for me.
It seems like everything has happened for you so fast. What did you do to make that happen?
Well I was working as a personal trainer at the time, and a client introduced me to producer Daveed. He helped me record my first couple of singles, which I sent out to record pools. I sent my first single, "What're You Gonna Do" to Ralphi Rosario, which he liked and ultimately decided to remix.
Do you write your own music?
I write the lyrics and melodies, and Daveed arranges the music.
How did you get the word out about your music?
At first I distributed everthing myself on the Internet, but I just got picked up by a distributor so my new album and singles will be available in stores starting in May. Right now you can get my music at online music stores like Amazon.com, iTunes, CDBaby, and PerfectBeat.
Tell me about your new album.
My new album will include some new songs as well as the first dance singles that I released like the "Feel You" remixes by Ralphi Rosario and E-Smoove.
What do you see as the future for dance music?
Well right now is definitely not the finest hour for dance music in the U.S. My album comes out in May, followed by a new single in the Spring called "Nothin' More to Say," so I'm hoping to help turn dance back around.
