Developed in 1904, Ansley Park was Atlanta's first commuter suburb.
The home of Piedmont Park, the neighborhood of Ansley Park / Midtown is also the center of Atlanta's thriving gay community as most of the bars, restaurants and stores in the area are gay-owned or gay-friendly.
In the 1960s and 70s, many hippies migrated to Midtown to take advantage of its low-cost housing, making it the largest "hippie district" in the Southeast! Times change, however, and many high-end stores, luxury apartments and upscale condominiums flourished in the area shortly after the 1996 Summer Olympics.
