Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site

The King Center, 449 Auburn Avenue NE, Atlanta, 404–331–6922, Map It

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in 1929 on the second floor of 501 Auburn Avenue.

Today you can still visit the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site in Sweet Auburn, the prosperous black community that he called home.

Even though he was assassinated in 1968, King's vision lives on with the help of his wife Coretta Scott King, who was also a strong gay rights advocate.

Insider Tip: Down the street you'll also find Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King, Jr. and his father, Martin Luther King, were pastors.
