One of Atlanta's first gay bars (it was once called "El Matador" in the 1970s), New Order welcomes older gentlemen who like to tell tales of days gone by.
It's not the non-stop party you'll find elsewhere, but the conversation is good, as are the drinks—which are reasonable and strong.

WOW! I ACCIDENTILLY FOUND THIS SITE. I USED TO DRINK AT THE MATADORE CIRCA 1975. IT WAS A WONDERFUL PLACE. I HEARD SOME OF THE FUNNEST STUFF I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE THERE. JADY MAE WAS A REGULAR, AS WAS REED. IN FACT I TELL THE STORY OF HOW I GOT THE BEST ADVICE OF MY LIFE AT EL MATADOR.
AS I WAS FEELING SORRY FOR MYSELF ONE NIGHT, AND BOREING THE HELL OUT OF THE OLD QUEEN SITTING NEXT TO ME BY RAMBLING ON AND ON WITH MY TAIL OF WOE, A GREAT THING HAPPENED.
HE TURNED TO ME, TOOK A DELICATE HIT ON HIS LOOOOOONG, SKINNY CIGARETTE AND SAID, "HONEY! YOU'VE JUST GOT TO GET OVER YOURSELF!"
IT REMAINS THE BEST ADVICE I EVER GOT, AND IS SOMETHING I TRY TO BE MINDEFUL OF EVERYDAY.
LONG LIVE THE SPIRIT OF EL MATADOR!
I MOVED FROM ATLANTA IN 1993..(I STOPPED DRINKING IN 1985). I STILL MISS THE FUN I HAD THERE. IF I EVER GET BACK TO TOWN, I WILL STOP IN FOR A DIET COKE AND VISIT MEMORY LANE.
