The Alliance Theater is also one of the nation's only regional theatres that produces professionally staged works for both adults and children. The complex features an 800-seat proscenium-thrust stage and a 200-seat black-box studio. In 2007 it won the Tony Award for Best Regional Theatre.
Insider Tip: In 1998, Elton John chose the Alliance Theatre to premiere his and Tim Rice's production Elaborate Lives: The Legend of Aida. The show evolved over the course of its Atlanta run and eventually became the hit musical Aida on Broadway. Similarly, The Color Purple also premiere at the Alliance Theatre before becoming a hit musical produced by Oprah Winfrey in New York City.
